About: Nick Ott received dual degrees in German and Marketing from the University of Minnesota in 2017. After graduation, he worked as an English Language Assistant in Hessen, Germany through the Fulbright program and was also hired on as an English Instructor at the Philipps-Universität Marburg. Thereafter, he served in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica (rural Guanacaste), where his main projects included building capacity for English language education and rural tourism. Before coming to UW-Madison for graduate school, Nick also worked in the K-12 school system as a German and Spanish teacher. Currently, he is completing his master’s degree and plans to specialize in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) for his doctoral dissertation. His scholarly research interests include perceptions of non-native speakers, migrant language learning, language shift, and the study abroad experience.
