Research/Language Interests: Second language acquisition, foreign language pedagogy, authentic materials in L2 teaching and learning, in particular film, study abroad.
About Me: I am an applied linguist who joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in August 2010. Prior to that I taught at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in German language, culture, literature, and applied linguistics. As director of the German language program, I coordinate first- through fourth-semester German and supervises teaching assistants. In addition, I develop and supervise Intermediate German: Reading (German 258), one of three third-year language courses in the undergraduate curriculum. Current research projects focus on the use of authentic materials, especially film and graphic novels, in language learning. For the 2025-2026 academic year, I am President of the Phi Beta Kappa Alpha Chapter of Wisconsin.
