Research/Language Interests: 18th- to 21st-century German literature and culture; contemporary literature, Romanticism, GDR and Post-GDR literature, fairytales, feminist theory, queer theory, ecocriticism

About: Melissa Sheedy joined the Department of German, Nordic, and Slavic+ in August 2020. In addition to teaching classes on fairytales, Kafka, and German theater, she is also the Book Review Editor and Associate Editor of Monatshefte. Her research and teaching interests include German Romanticism, fairytales, feminist and queer theories, ecocriticism, and literary intersections of violence and gender. She loves talking with students and colleagues about fairytales, cats, cats in fairytales, and mermaids (literary and otherwise).
