Professor Emerita Judith Deutsch Kornblatt has come full-circle. She began her career as a graduate student at Columbia University teaching Lit/Humanities in the core curriculum there, and is currently teaching a course on “What Are the Humanities?” in a joint program at Tel Aviv University that includes undergraduates from Columbia and Israelis and international students enrolled in a BA in the Liberal Arts at TAU. You can check out the syllabus from this past semester here.
The most rewarding part has been her collaboration with some of her former students, including Melissa Miller (PhD in Slavic Studies, 2016), José Vergara (PhD Slavic, 2016), and Patrick Michelson (BA in Russian, PhD in History, 2007). For her sins, Judith has also been asked to join the administration of the program at 50%. It does bring her up to campus several times a week (where she can use the Sports Center!), but so much for retirement. Or practicing nursing. Well, life is long.
Judith has also been asked to participate in a lecture series at the Harvard Divinity School called “The Divine Feminine and its Discontents.” She will speak on Vladimir Solovyov and the Divine Sophia in early March. If you are interested in receiving the Zoom link for the talk, feel free to contact her directly at jkornbla@wisc.edu.
