UW Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellow and IRIS NRC FLAS awardee Cat Carroll receives prestigious Wolff Fellowship for 2025

As she wraps up her senior year at UW–Madison, Cat Carroll is preparing for a journey unlike any other: a year-long global trek across seven countries to explore the human stories behind migration. Cat, a Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellow and IRIS NRC FLAS awardee, was recently named as the College of Letters & Science Wolff Fellow for 2025. The Wolff Fellows program grants $45,000 to a graduating senior in the College of Letters & Science to support a year of travel, service or study abroad experience, post-graduation – it is highly competitive, and requires not only exceptional academic performance, but also commitment to the greater community. Thanks to her Wolff fellowship, Cat will be able to dive into the lived experiences of migrants and the journalists who cover them, connecting the threads of history, policy, and personal narrative from the U.S.-Mexico border to Berlin. Follow her journey as she blends storytelling, service, and cultural immersion in pursuit of a deeper understanding of migration’s global impact.
