About: Nick Ott received dual degrees in German and Marketing from the University of Minnesota in 2017 and a master’s degree in German from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2022. After graduation, he worked as an English Language Assistant in Hessen, Germany through the Fulbright program and was also hired as an English Instructor at the Philipps-Universität Marburg. Thereafter, he served in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica (rural Guanacaste), where his main projects included building capacity for English language education and rural tourism. Before coming to UW-Madison for graduate school, Nick also worked in the K-12 school system as a German and Spanish teacher. Currently, he is working on his doctoral dissertation in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) on the modern conception of foreigner-talk discourse. His scholarly research interests include speech accommodation, language contact (with German) in Latin America, computer-aided language learning, and the study abroad experience.
