Despite (or perhaps because of?) the gloomy weather, we had a spectacularly spooky and intellectually stimulating supernatural UW tour last Wednesday evening, led by Madison Ghost Walks. Over 30 students showed up to prowl the campus hearing memorates, legends, FOAF tales, rumors, and other occult narratives, followed by a very illuminating presentation and Q&A by long-time local supernatural storyteller and ghost hunter (and former Madison firefighter!) Lisa Van Buskirk, who offered up some fascinating insights into her methods of researching Madison ghostlore, the ethics of haunted tours, and her choices as a professional performer of supernatural stories.
Also, CNN published an article yesterday which mentions UW Folklore, Lowell Brower’s class “FOLKLORE 451: The Supernatural in the Modern World,” and has a few quotes from him about the supernatural. Check it out!
