Trauma, Religion, and Spirituality in Germany during the First World War

Jason Crouthamel is a professor of history at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. Focusing on the social and cultural history of total war, in particular traumatic experience, memory, religion and masculinity, he has published Trauma, Religion and Spirituality in Germany during the First World War (Bloomsbury, 2021); An Intimate History of the Front: Masculinity, Sexuality and German Soldiers in the First World War (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014); and The Great War and German Memory: Society, Politics and Psychological Trauma, 1914−1945 (Liverpool University Press, 2009). He has also co-edited several collected volumes, including most recently, with Peter Leese and Julia B. Köhne, Languages of Trauma: History, Memory and Media (University of Toronto Press, 2021).
