Annika Kennerhed
Major: Data Science
Certificate: Scandinavian Studies
Favorite GNS+ class: Scand St 419 – Scandinavian Children’s Literature
Favorite course from another department: Design Studies 153 – Sewn Construction
Favorite memory from UW: Hammocking in lakeshore all the time with dorm friends and going to the library booksales.
Something you learned about yourself in college: Studying for a semester in Madrid was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it was incredibly worth it. I learned a lot about my own determination, grit, and problem-solving while being immersed in another language and culture.
Future plans and dreams: I will be working full time in the data field and eventually hope to move closer to family in Sweden.
Any advice for incoming students? Study abroad!!! Especially in a language immersion program, and plan with your advisor early on!

Majors: Scandinavian Studies & Computer Science
Hometown: Saint Michael, Minnesota
Favorite GNS+ class: Scand St 520; Nordic Television taught by Liina-Ly Roos
Favorite course from another department: Swedish Politics; Taught at Lund University in Sweden
Favorite memory from UW: Watching the Badgers Women’s hockey team beat Minnesota with a group of friends at LaBahn, then proceeding to message my friends who attend the University of Minnesota to gloat.
Future plans and dreams: I’m planning on working right out of college in the Computer Science field to pay off my undergraduate studies, before ideally coming back to school and working towards a Masters or Doctorates in something relating to Scandinavian Studies.
Any advice for incoming students? Take your time! College is about the experience as much as it is the studies. Don’t feel like you need to rush through your major classes. I’d recommend to take some classes outside of your field if you can fit them in your schedule.
