About: Rachel is a Ph.D. student in Scandinavian Studies, with a focus on late medieval and early modern Swedish popular culture. She completed her master’s thesis at Uppsala University, examining how certain Swedish supernatural ballads negotiated gender through depictions of hybridity and transformation. She is interested in how folklore, stories, and the Scandinavian medieval ballads communicate early modern conceptions of the body, gender, power, violence, and monstrosity.
